Air curtains

Air curtains

Industrial and commercial air curtains

Air curtains are devices that create an invisible barrier over doors and gates, which retains heat inside the building in winter and blocks the inflow of hot air, dust and insects in summer. Effective separation of climate zones reduces heating and air conditioning costs and protects the indoor microclimate. Our range includes two series of air curtains tailored to different types of facilities: the industrial air curtain HUMMER for warehouse and production gates, and the commercial air curtain AERIS for entrances in service facilities.

Industrial air curtain

HUMMER series

Air curtains for industrial gates in warehouses, production halls, logistics centres and workshops. The modular design allows units to be mounted horizontally or vertically and linked in series to cover the widest openings.

  • Jet reach: up to 8 m
  • Airflow capacity: 4,400 to 14,500 m³/h
  • IP rating: IP54
  • Motor options: AC or EC

Commercial air curtain

AERIS series

Ready-to-install curtains mounted above entrance doors in supermarkets, offices, hotels and restaurants. Compact units with a minimalist design create a discreet, quiet barrier without disrupting the aesthetics of the building entrance.

  • Jet reach: up to 3 m
  • Airflow capacity: 1,100 to 3,540 m³/h
  • IP rating: IP20
  • Motor options: AC (2 or 3 speeds)

Why invest in an air curtain?

Effective thermal protection at the entrance — a barrier between indoor and outdoor air

An air curtain creates a sealed barrier above open doors and gates, limiting the mixing of indoor and outdoor air. This is crucial for buildings with high footfall (shops, hotels, offices) and for facilities where warehouse gates remain open during logistics operations.

Lower heating and cooling costs — reduced thermal energy losses in winter and cool air losses in summer

Reducing air exchange between zones translates directly into lower costs of maintaining the indoor climate. In facilities with industrial gates or frequently opened entrance doors, an air curtain can significantly reduce the load on heating systems in winter and cooling systems in summer.

Indoor climate protection — defence against dust, insects and contaminants

The air barrier stops not only excess heat or cold, but also dust, insects and airborne contaminants from outside. This is particularly important in food service and food production facilities, as well as in premises with elevated hygiene requirements.

Match the heat source

Regardless of the series you choose, you can select the technology that suits the installation available in your building. Each air curtain is available in three variants.

With water heat exchanger (LPHW coil)

Uses hot water from the central heating system. Delivers high output and the lowest running costs when heating large volumes. Recommended for buildings with a central heating installation of adequate capacity.

With electric heater

The solution for buildings without a water supply installation. Modern PTC heaters ensure fast warm-up and safe operation. Available with 230 V or 400 V supply depending on the output required.

Without heat exchanger (ambient / unheated)

Generates a powerful airflow only. Ideal for cold stores and facilities that require climate zone separation and insect protection without raising the temperature at the entrance.

Compare technical specifications

Choosing the right air curtain usually comes down to two factors: the size of the opening and the conditions inside the building.

FAQ

The HUMMER series is designed for industrial applications and is ideal for tall gates in warehouses, production halls, workshops and garages. The AERIS series should be chosen for commercial and public buildings, such as entrances to supermarkets, shops, hotels and offices.

The maximum installation height of an air curtain must not exceed its effective jet reach. For AERIS curtains this is 3 metres. The HUMMER series, by contrast, is designed for significantly taller gates and offers an effective reach of between 6.5 metres and up to 8.0 metres depending on the model selected (the greatest reach is achieved by the TURBO models).

The HUMMER series, AERIS WN and the AERIS 90EN-3P and 120EN-3P models can be connected to a building management system (BMS). The HMI CURTAIN BMS and HMI EC BMS controllers enable BMS integration. Communication uses the MODBUS protocol (RS485 standard). Other AERIS models controlled by remote control cannot be connected to a BMS system.

In such conditions the HUMMER series is clearly the better choice. The fan motors in HUMMER curtains carry an IP54 rating, meaning the enclosure is protected against dust and against water spray from any direction. AERIS units have an IP20 protection class and must not be installed in locations exposed to high humidity, dust or direct water contact. It should be noted, however, that neither series should operate in environments with extreme dust concentrations exceeding 0.3 g/m³.

Both series offer the same three variants, which can be flexibly matched to the available supply installation in the building:

Ambient / without heat exchanger: Curtains without a heat exchanger, designated by the letter "C" in both series.

Electric: Curtains with electric heaters, designated by the letters "E" and "EN".

Water (LPHW): Curtains with a water heat exchanger connected to the central heating system. In the HUMMER series these are designated by the letter "W"; in the AERIS series by the letters "WN".

The electric air curtains in both series are equipped with modern, energy-efficient PTC heaters, but they differ in output. The industrial HUMMER models feature higher-output heaters, enabling effective coverage of gates up to 8 metres high. The commercial AERIS series draws considerably less power and is ideally suited to standard entrances with a reach of up to 3 metres. HUMMER uses industrial axial fans, while AERIS uses cross-flow fan motors.

When NOT to choose the commercial AERIS series:

Opening height exceeds 3 metres: The effective jet reach of the curtain will be exceeded, making it impossible to form a sealed air barrier at floor level.

Harsh environmental conditions: These units have a protection class of only IP20. They must not be used in locations with elevated humidity, dust, or a risk of water splashing.

Heavy industry: The design and components are not optimised for the continuous, maximum loads typical of demanding warehouse and production environments.

When NOT to choose the industrial HUMMER series:

HUMMER air curtains are not suitable for offices, hotels, smaller shops and other commercial entrances with a standard height of up to 3 metres. The noise of industrial motors may cause discomfort to users.

HUMMER air curtains are not suitable for explosion-risk and extreme-dust zones: despite the more robust enclosure (IP54), HUMMER curtains do not hold ATEX certification. They must not be used in explosive atmospheres, environments with aggressive chemical vapours, or conditions where dust concentration exceeds 0.3 g/m³.
